THE SPIRIT OF AN AUSSIE I was standing on a hillside in a field of blowing wheat He looked at me with kind dark eyes an ancient wisdom shining through His mind did lock upon my heart as I stood there on that day I stood upon the hillside in a field of blowing wheat His tale did put my heart at ease, my fears did fade away, "I live among God's creatures now in the heavens of your mind, My collar is a rainbow's hue, my leash a shooting star, There are no pens or kennels here, for I am not confined, I nap the day on a snowy cloud, gentle breezes rocking me
The trees are full of liver treats and tennis balls abound, There even is a ring set up the grass all lush and green, For we're all winners in this place, we have no faults you see, I drink from waters laced with gold, my world a beauty to behold, At night I sleep in an angel's arms, her wings protecting me, So when your life on earth is spent and you stand at Heaven's gate,

We would like to thank Stephen for letting us share his beautiful girls story. We are so sorry for your loss. |
Then There Were Two... My Pomeranian, Sugar, born March, 1997, loved sleeping stretched out, with her back against my chest at night. Last night was no exception. I awoke about 5:23am, having to use the bathroom, Sugar moved to let me up out of bed; plopping back down beside me, when I returned, sometimes licking my cheek as we'd go back to sleep, which she did this morning for the last time.

Huck was, obviously a black standard poodle. We got him as a puppy. He died at age 7 of 'bloat' or the condition where the stomach flips. He was a noble creature, the dearest of canine friends and he had a tender heart for everyone except the mail man. He loved to walk with me and we did that every night. Of course he attracted attention because he was so handsome and stately. But he didn't care. He loved the dirt and the water even though he was a lousy swimmer. I miss him. Please acquaint yourself with 'bloat' in dogs as maybe if I'd known the symptoms I might have been able to get him to the vet in time. You know we take our dogs for granted. I do. I get busy and work work and blow by and there they stand just waiting for a speck of you to notice them. Huck used to go to work with me sometimes. He'd sit in front of my desk all day long, just content to be there with me.
Bloat is the second leading killer of dogs, after cancer! - For more information about Bloat - Gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV)
We would like to thank Suzanne for sharing her story and bringing this awful disease to our attention. Just know he is waiting for you still, Suzanne!

The Pom in the background is Tiny. She was a gentle sole who fell deeply in love with Larry. Tiny was so jealous of Larry that she would sit beside him in his recliner and growl at every one who got within a few feet of them. We put that recliner in a yard sale once. Tiny went right out side and sat in it and growled away any one who looked at it. Needless to say we put it back in the house and Larry didn't get a new recliner. She passed away at the age of 8 from heart failure in 2003.

Little Miss Dixie all snuggled in the bed in the camper. She truly went every where we went. From this spot she could over see breakfast being made. |
This is our Miss Dixie - a chocolate Pom. She was the very best friend a human could ask for. She ran our lives like a little drill sergeant. She told us when the food dish was low, when to go to bed and when to get up. She was my constant companion, she went everywhere with me, even places you shouldn't have a dog. She was so small and well behaved that I could put her in my purse and no one but us knew she was there.
We lost Dixie to complications of old age. She passed away at the age of 17 in 2006. |

The Blue Heeler is Lilly, the dark Pom is Dixie, the little blue merle puppy is Jazz. |
Every child should have a dog like Lilly in their lives. She was always ready for a game of Frisbee, ball or anything else you were willing to throw. I never had to worry about my daughter taking off on a horse alone as Lilly was there to protect her.
Lilly was one of the best stock dogs to ever work horses. When she was a young dog, we owned a riding stable and breeding facility. I could take Lilly by myself and gather and catch horses faster than I could taking 3 or 4 wranglers in the mornings.
Lilly passed away the spring of 2007 at the age of 16. We truly miss her spirit and her never ending willingness to play fetch.

| Like other members of your family, your pet may outlive you. While your pet will certainly miss you dearly when you are gone, will your pet be properly cared for? Who will make sure they have shelter, food, water, exercise or a toy to play with? Who will be responsible for paying their medical bills? Who will decide when and if to euthanize? Will your pet receive an appropriate burial? Do you have multiple pets and want them to stay together?
These issues and more are often overlooked when people create their estate plan. If your trust or will is silent as to your pet care wishes, and if no informal arrangements have been made to have someone come and get your pets once you have passed, your pets may end up in the care of someone you don't know or worse.

A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to 'Where do dogs come from?' Adam and Eve said, "Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us." And God said, "I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves." And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve. And it was a good animal. And God was pleased. And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail. And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal." And God said, "I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG."
